Catherine Robinson, Associate Director at Howden Insurance’s South Wales office, is taking on the New York Marathon on 2 November in aid of Joseph’s Smile.

Having previously completed the London and Edinburgh marathons in support of charities, Catherine chose to continue Howden’s support for Joseph’s Smile after hearing about the vital work they do.

Joseph’s Smile provides grants to children to access lifesaving or life-changing medical treatment or equipment that’s not available to them on the NHS, as well as raising awareness, support, and research for childhood cancer.

Founded in 2022 in memory of Joseph Yeandle, the charity has provided over £165,000 in funding for children to access lifesaving or life-changing medical treatment.

This marks the latest event in Howden’s support for Joseph’s Smile, after raising over £2,500 for the charity with a British & Irish Lions watch event in the Swansea.com Stadium in July of this year. The fundraiser saw over 100 guests gather to watch the Lions’ victory over the Queensland Reds and raise money for the charity through a raffle and a hotly contested auction.

Howden has a long-standing streak of local charity fundraising, with a stream of initiatives organised by Howden’s local and national offices including raising £32,000 for Maggie’s Cancer Charity earlier this year with a daring Wing Walking challenge.

Catherine said: “I originally won a ballot place for the New York Marathon and then after hearing the incredible story from Katy and Emma at Joseph’s Smile, I knew I had to use my place to raise money for the charity. These smaller, local charities are not lucky enough to have their own marathon spaces like many others, so I immediately knew that I had to run the marathon in Joseph’s legacy.

“The work of Joseph’s Smile is truly life-changing for families. I urge anyone who is able to, to donate and help them help as many people as possible.”

Speaking in support of Catherine, Regional Manging Director at Howden Insurance, Gary Stevens, said: “We are all incredibly proud of Catherine for her hard work and dedication in fundraising for such a fantastic cause. We are passionate about supporting important local charities to our South Wales offices, especially after speaking to Joseph’s Smile and understanding their life-changing work. We are thrilled to be supporting Cath every step of the way and encourage everyone to do the same.”
