Responding to the news that the UK government and Tata steel have reached a new deal, Mid and West Wales MS Jane Dodds said:

“This deal, presented to the workers of Tata steel by the UK Labour Government and backed by the Welsh Labour Government, is nothing more than a list of empty promises.

Labour’s failure to prevent job losses will have real-world consequences for both the workers facing redundancy and the local community that relies on trade with the steel works.

Tata have promised a paid-retraining scheme for those at risk of losing their jobs, but until the full details of this are disclosed then I’m afraid both myself and the wider community of Port Talbot will remain sceptical.”
