Caerphilly County Borough Council joins the rest of the UK and Europe in commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings which took place on 6 June 1944.
D-Day was the largest Naval, Air and land operation in military history and brought together allied armies in what became known as the largest amphibious invasion. The operation, given the codename Overlord took place in Normandy, France.
On Thursday 6 June 2024, the bravery and sacrifice of those people in securing the peace and freedom we enjoy today will be observed by the lighting of beacons around the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
The official D-Day 80 flag will be flying outside Ty Penallta today. Various services will take place across the county borough, please check with your local community or town council.
