THE ALL-DAY EVENT AIMS TO RAISE FUNDS AS SWANSEA MUSIC VENUES UNITE TO PRESERVE AND SUPPORT THE CITY’S MUSIC SCENE

The Swansea Arena House Party, taking place on Sat 24th February, has announced its full line-up and tickets are now on sale. In partnership with the Music Venue Trust (MVT), the House Party will champion the local music scene and celebrate the two-year anniversary of Swansea Arena’s hugely successful original test events, known as the House Warming.

The electrifying annual all-day event aims to raise £20k in its first year, which will primarily be channelled to venues in the SA postcode area. Additional voluntary donations on forthcoming announced music events, will also contribute to reaching this fundraising target.

Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard will headline the main stage with support from Kikker, The Fiends, Pseudo Cool, Mojo Jnr., Monet, Grey FLX, and Rainyday Rainbow, while the venue’s coffee shop will be running a special afternoon-long version of its fortnightly ‘Coffee Shop Sessions’ with stripped back, pop-up, intimate performances from Honey Rich, Daisy, Tarun Rathod, Margo Thirlwell and Subterrania which will also belive-streamed to warm-up those who are heading along later on.

In addition, throughout the day there will be creative workshops taking in developing a live show, creating pop art album covers, noise makers taster DJ sessions, graffiti lettering, and drumming, as well as an array of stalls from local grassroots music venues, funders and support organisations, creatives including photographers and videographers, plus much, much more.

Partner venues in Swansea including Elysium, Hippos and Bunkhouse will be hosting after parties for those looking to continue the night. Bunkhouse will be taking the house party to the kitchen with the ‘Kikker Kitchen Party’ (free entry) and Hippos will be changing it up with some DnB, Jungle and 140 (tickets £4) – keep an eye on social media for further information.

This event is the first since the creation of the Swansea Music Venues Working Group, a new collaboration in which music venues across the city have joined forces to enable the city’s rich music scene to face the industry’s challenges and create opportunities together.

Bringing large scale and grass roots venues together on equal footing, the new Working Group, which has formed a partnership with the Music Venues Trust (MVT), is tackling issues that directly impact Swansea’s live music scene. The Working Group is chaired by Lisa Mart, Venue Director of ATG’s Swansea Arena, with representatives from Sin City, The Bunkhouse, Elysium, Hangar 18 and Hippos.

The Group has also fostered support between the venues who are now working together in many ways, including sharing staff to develop technical skills across all venues, loaning critical equipment and the Swansea Arena is providing much needed parking.

Lisa Mart, Venue Director, Swansea Arena says: “In August last year we started monthly meetings with the local grassroots music venues where we started to discuss issues, obstacles and opportunities that we all share – at the first meeting the other city centre venue leaders highlighted just how important the work of the Music Venue Trust was to the GMVs locally. Following a catch-up with Mark Davyd of Music Venue Trust, organised by Jordan McGuire of The Bunkhouse, the idea of a partnership with Music Venue Trust seemed the correct first step, but to really drive this partnership forward, we wanted something loud and noisy to celebrate with and to focus our year around.

“The House Party was something we had been planning for some time as an anniversary of our test events – the Swansea Arena House Warming. Donating the ticketing income to the MVT provided a perfect opportunity to create something that put local grassroots culture front and centre while also setting ourselves an ambitious fundraising goal to be pipelined efficiently into South Wales Venues. The House Party is set to see a whole host of local talent take to the stage here, as well as bringing together key faces from across the Welsh creative industries.
