​Council budget plans unveiled

Caerphilly county borough council has revealed details of its draft budget proposals for 2024/25, ahead of a meeting of the council’s Cabinet next Wednesday 17th January.

Caerphilly county borough council has revealed details of its draft budget proposals for 2024/25, ahead of a meeting of the council’s Cabinet next Wednesday 17th January.

“Over the next 3 years Caerphilly is facing a budget shortfall of around £66million, so we need to make some significant changes in order to plug this huge budget gap,” said Cllr Sean Morgan, Leader of Council.

“We are reviewing and transforming many of our services to identify efficiencies and deliver positive change, but inevitably, we will also need to make some difficult decisions over the next 12 months to balance our books,” he added.

Some of the key proposals within the budget report include:

• A proposed 6.9% increase in Council Tax for 2024/25
• £19.5m of permanent savings
• £11.4m of temporary savings
• Use of £11.3m from council reserves towards savings

“It is important that local people get the chance to have your say about these budget proposals, so over the coming weeks we will be holding a widescale public consultation to gather feedback from the community about our budget proposals.”

The budget report will be considered by Cabinet on 17th January, then, following a period of public consultation, the final report will be considered at a meeting of Full Council at the end of February.
