A Closure Order has been granted on a property owned by Caerphilly County Borough Council to tackle anti-social behaviour.
The property had become the focus of anti-social behaviour for some considerable time, causing nuisance and upset to other residents. The Council’s Tenancy Enforcement Section successfully applied for the Closure Order after repeated advice, interventions and support failed to have a lasting impact.
Incidents of loud music, abusive language, late night gatherings and offensive behaviour from the property were causing other residents distress. Emergency services were also placed under additional strain as a result of being called to deal with incidents associated with anti-social behaviour at the address.
The Closure Order means that, whilst the current residents can remain, no visitors are allowed to the property for an initial period of 3 months. Those who attend in breach of the Order are liable to be arrested.
Cllr Shayne Cook, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said “Measures such as this are always a last resort, after all reasonable, necessary and proportionate actions have been taken when our contract holders (tenants) cause nuisance and upset to other residents in the borough.
“The Closure Order will come as welcome news for local residents who had been victims of persistent anti-social behaviour at this property.”
The Tenancy Enforcement Section deals with incidents of anti-social behaviour or nuisance either experienced by Council contract holders or as a result of someone living in a Council property.
