Maesteg thief and burglar stopped by Neighbourhood Police Team

A man from Maesteg has been jailed for multiple thefts and fraud following an investigation by the local neighbourhood policing team.

Nicky Blackwell, 35 from Maesteg was sentenced on Wednesday March 25,2026 at Cardiff Magistrates Court to 24 weeks in prison. This sentence follows guilty pleas to two counts of fraud by false representation, seven counts of theft and three counts of burglary other than dwelling.

Between August 2025 and February 2026 Blackwell was involved in seven thefts from stores across the Maesteg area; in total he stole over £1,500.

These included three thefts from Asda in Maesteg totalling £750, one theft from Tesco in Maesteg where Backwell stole alcohol totalling around £800, one theft from Tesco in Cimla totalling around £100 and two incidents in Filco stores, one in Caerau and another in Maesteg where Blackwell had stolen £40 each time via deception.

Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing officer Daryl Waddell said, “This was a thorough and in-depth investigation run by our neighbourhood policing teams, businesses in our community deserve to be able to trade without worrying about theft.

“Following the investigation, we were able to prosecute Blackwell for several crimes, and he will now spend time in prison for his actions.”
