A shoplifter who was tracked down by two of our excellent PCSOs has been jailed.
PCSOs Grace Looker and Grace Hayman were on foot patrol near Tesco St Mellons, Cardiff, when they noticed a suspected shoplifter in the supermarket car park.
Checks with the control room confirmed the suspect was wanted in connection with six shoplifting offences.
He ran off but the PCSOs chased after him until he was found hiding among the trees and shrubbery opposite Oakfield Primary School, on January 23.
Abdi Faatax, 41, from St Mellons, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 23.
Following a conviction for six thefts from Boots in Countisbury Avenue, he was jailed for 24 weeks and issued with a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
As part of the order, he must not enter Boots in Countisbury Avenue.
Breaching the order is a criminal offence punishable by prison, and or a fine.
This is the latest success following a new wider approach to shoplifting and anti-social behaviour by police in Cardiff and The Vale.
Breaches and incidents should be reported to police.
