Joshua Smith, 24, from Cadoxton, has been involved in multiple incidents of theft from local stores.
He regularly enters premises with no intention of buying any goods and officers have witnessed him become confrontational and aggressive when challenged.
Following his recent conviction for three thefts and one attempt theft, Smith was issued with a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on February 4.
The court heard the CBO was necessary to prevent crime and to protect the community, local workers, and members of the public from continued distress, disruption, and potential harm.

“Shoplifting can have a devastating impact on shopworkers and retailers.
“This case demonstrates our commitment to tackling retail theft and supporting the industry.”
As part of the CBO, Smith is banned from the town’s Asda, Morrisons, and Iceland and the One Stop Shop in Broad Street.
The order also prevents him from entering Holton Road, except for pre-arranged medical or support service appointments.
He is also banned from a number of housing provider properties – Junction House in Hood Road, Ellis Fisher in Broad Street and Ty’r Gyfraith in Greenwood Street.
This is the latest success following a new wider approach to shoplifting by police in Cardiff and The Vale.
Officers have been meeting with retailers and businesses to improve information and intelligence sharing as well as arresting prolific offenders and those who profit from retail theft.
The approach was put in place as a response to rising retail theft and to improve trust and confidence within our business communities.
