A man has been jailed for one year and six weeks after threatening a man with a knife in the middle of a street.
Mark McCarthy, 33, of Rhiw’r Ddar, Taffs Well pleaded guilty on Friday November 14 to threatening with a bladed article after an incident on Brook Street in Riverside.
At around 8.00pm on Sunday, August 10, 2024, officers received a 999-call reporting a disturbance in the street, where a man was brandishing a large knife towards another man before leaving the area.
Officers attended, including firearms, and the man – now known to be McCarthy – was traced and arrested within 30 minutes of the call.
Yesterday (November 18) he was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to one year and six weeks in prison.
Detective Constable Phillips said:“Knife crime remains a top priority for South Wales Police, and we are committed to protecting our communities by tackling those who carry weapons and pose such serious risks to public safety.
“I’m pleased to see this sentence ordered today and hope it sends a message to McCarthy and others that we will ensure they are held accountable for using weapons to intimidate others.”
