Caerphilly man jailed for multiple driving offences

A Caerphilly man has been jailed for various driving offences following a South Wales Police pursuit.

Niall Bright aged 28 from Abercarn in Caerphilly pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, using a car without insurance, failure to provide a specimen for analysis, two counts of assault on an emergency worker and possession of Class B drug (Amphetamine) when he appeared at Merthyr Magistrates court on Tuesday May 20,2025.

This followed an incident on Monday May 19, 2025, when officers from the roads policing unit were alerted to Bright who was driving a Volkswagen Golf that was linked to an ongoing police investigation.

Officers pre-emptively used a stinger on the car which was successful on all four tyres however Bright failed to stop resulting in a pursuit. Bright continued to drive in an erratic fashion, this involved driving on the wrong side of the road on numerous occasions including around a roundabout and driving at almost double the speed limit. He also rammed his car into the officer’s cars during the pursuit.

The pursuit came to an end on the A48 in Bonvilston where Bright collided with a road sign. He was immediately arrested and when asked failed to provide a sample for analysis in hospital.

Bright was sentenced to two years and two months in prison at Merthyr Crown Court on Monday June 16, 2025.

I hope this sentence sends out a strong message, that it is never acceptable to drive in such a manner and that we are always on patrol and could be anywhere”
