Greenfields Day Nursery to open new childcare centre in Blackwood with support from CCBC and UK Government

Greenfields Day Nursery, a registered Full Daycare Nursery with over nine years of successful operation in Rogerstone, is excited to announce the opening of its brand-new childcare centre in Blackwood on February 3rd, 2025. This new facility, the only full-day care setting in Blackwood Town Centre, aims to provide an enriching and nurturing environment for children aged 0-5, while supporting local families and the community.

Thanks to the support from Caerphilly Borough County Council and funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), Greenfields Nursery received a £25,000 Business Development Grant through Caerphilly Borough County Council which helped with the refurbishment of the building.

Greenfields Day Nursery will create 25 new jobs and will offer a range of services, including Flying Start Provision for 2-year-olds, the Childcare Offer for Wales, before and after school care, and holiday provision. In total, the nursery will provide 68 spaces for local children.

Jason Roberts-Jones, Owner of Greenfields Day Nursery, expressed his gratitude for the support received, stating, “The grant and support made it achievable; we couldn’t have ever achieved it without the backing. The application for the grant process was very straightforward, and I’m very appreciative of the support from Caerphilly Council’s Business Renewal and Enterprise team and Nicola Greenway, Child Care Development Officer from the Council. We wouldn’t have been able to make this happen without them.”

Greenfields Day Nursery is committed to working with local suppliers to source fresh fruit and vegetables for the children, and a nearby company will handle the laundry services for the nursery. In a bid to foster community spirit, the nursery will partner with the local rugby club next door and sponsor their under 9’s rugby team. Additionally, staff will receive discounted gym memberships to promote their well-being, and children will partake in local visits to allotments, the high street, and garden centres.

Sally Harvey, Senior Investment Officer at Caerphilly Borough County Council, commented, “Greenfields Day Nursery is a welcome and much-needed childcare setting in Blackwood Town Centre. It will offer quality childcare in a nurturing environment for working parents in the local area and beyond.”

The nursery has been designed with security and safety in mind, featuring buzzer entry systems and CCTV surveillance. It is divided into three zones: a preschool area for ages 3-5, a zone for 2-3-year-olds, and a first floor designated for children under 2, complete with play and sleeping areas. A new kitchen has also been installed to provide nutritious meals for the children. To maximise outside play the grounds around the building have also been turned into the 3 separate gardens and play areas.

Parents will benefit from local drop-off and pick-up services for school-aged children, ensuring convenience for working families. Greenfields Day Nursery is also registered with the Government’s tax-free childcare scheme and childcare vouchers, allowing eligible working parents of 3-4-year-olds to claim funding towards the cost of childcare, providing 30 hours of early education and childcare in Wales.
