Communities across Caerphilly are being given more support to tackle roadside litter in a new bin sticker campaign aimed to encourage residents to dispose of litter responsibly.
Litter bin signage will be rolled out throughout Caerphilly County Borough in busy hotspots and road lay-bys to remind residents to dispose of their litter carefully.
With over 2000 litter bins across the borough, the new bin signage clarifies their intended purpose which is to dispose of litter only. Household rubbish and business waste should not be placed in, next to or around the litter bins.
Leaving waste in, on or beside the litter bin is fly-tipping and has serious ramifications. The new bin stickers ask residents to use the bin for its intended purpose only but also enforce the law and outline the fines associated with fly-tipping.
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure and Green Spaces, commented: “Our environment enforcement team continue to work hard to tackle littering and fly-tipping.
Help us keep Caerphilly clean by disposing of waste responsibly through recycling wherever possible, using household waste recycling centres and using litter bins for general litter and bagged dog waste only”.
Neil Harrison, Fly-Tipping Action Wales Team Leader, said: “Dumping household and business waste alongside public litter bins is a growing issue throughout Wales. People need to be aware that this is fly-tipping and those caught doing so can receive a fixed penalty notice or criminal record.
Fly-tipping Action Wales are pleased to support Caerphilly council’s pro-active approach to educating the public on this issue, via an easy-to-understand bin sticker.”
This campaign is being delivered by Caerphilly County Borough Council in partnership with Fly Tipping Action Wales. A special thanks to Carmarthenshire County Council who provided a design framework for the campaign as well as valuable feedback.
