Jayne Bryant MS visits Action for Children’s Gwent FIT Service

Jayne Bryant MS, Cabinet Secretary for Housing, Local Government, and Planning has visited Action for Children’s Family Intervention Team (FIT).  During her visit, she met with staff and families supported by the service and Platfform 4 YP. 

The FIT team works with children Gwent-wide with emotional and behavioural difficulties, problems with family relationships and those who have or are likely to self-harm. The team works directly with families to help understand the reasons behind certain behaviour and use creative techniques that are tailored to meet individual needs. 

Ms Bryant said: ‘I enjoyed visiting Action for Children’s Gwent Family Intervention Team and Platfform’s 4YP project this morning. It is important to hear the voices of families and young people that projects like these support and I am grateful to all those who shared their stories with me.

‘The Gwent Family Intervention Team is an excellent example of a mental health support offer that provides the right help, at the right time, in the right way. The Family Intervention Teams demonstrate the fantastic outcomes that can be achieved together.’

‘Platfform 4 YP provides valuable support to young people using peer support and it was clear from talking to the young people today this service increases confidence, reduces isolation and gives young people the skills to improve their wellbeing. The staff at both projects are dedicated to supporting those they work with.’

Becky James-Tudor, Action for Children’s Practice Manager at Caerphilly FIT, added: ‘It was great to welcome Jayne to our service, and she was genuinely interested in our approach to supporting children and their families in overcoming emotional and behavioural challenges use and the positive impacts we achieve.

‘Jayne spoke at length with children, young people, parents and staff and crucially, her interest was genuine and they felt heard.  We are exceptionally proud of the families we support and the work we do together.  For Jayne to take time out of her busy schedule to visit us underlined the importance of this work in all the boroughs across Gwent.’
