UK Sports Fans Outranked All Us Sports Fans in Mascot Knowledge
The Premier League season has come to an end, and as football supporters prepare for the Euros starting this week,OLBG.com thought it would be a perfect time to rank UK football teams by how memorable or forgettable their mascots are.
With National Mascot Day falling on June 17th in the US, the team analyzed results from the quiz website Sporcle. The data revealed that UK sports fans have the best knowledge of mascots, with 80% of fans recognizing all mascots featured in our list – the highest percentage across all leagues in the US.
The Most Memorable Football Mascots
Cyril the Swan ranked number one on our list and is known for his entertaining antics and larger-than-life personality. Cyril has become a fan favourite at Liberty Stadium, so it is no surprise he ranked number one with 92.10% of football fans remembering him.
Herbie the Hammer, West Ham United’s mascot, ranked second with 89.90% of football fans remembering him. Stamford the Lion (Chelsea), Filbert Fox (Leicester City), and Gunnersaurus Rex (Arsenal) round out the top five – with over 85% of football fans remembering these mascots.

UK football fans have the best knowledge when it comes to mascots globally! Across each quiz, football fans came out on top, with fans knowing on average 80% of the mascots who featured in the quiz. This means UK sports fans outranked all US sports fans in mascot knowledge.
