The leadership team and Governing Body at Risca Community Comprehensive School have pledged to deliver improvement at all levels following the publication of the latest Estyn inspection report.

The leadership team and Governing Body at Risca Community Comprehensive School have pledged to deliver improvement at all levels following the publication of the latest Estyn inspection report.
His Majesty’s Chief Inspector has determined that special measures are required at the school, so a special action plan is being developed to address the report recommendations as quickly as possible. This follows a previous inspection in September 2022 when the school was judged to require significant improvement.
Head Teacher, Martin Hulland said, “We are obviously disappointed with the report, but the school leadership team and Governing Body fully accept the findings and we are determined to make the necessary changes to improve outcomes for all our learners.”
“I would like to assure the whole school community that our improvement journey is already underway and Estyn has recognised that some improvements have already been delivered since September.”
“This process will continue and will ensure that the school becomes much stronger and a genuinely high performing community school, providing opportunities and positive outcomes for all our pupils,” he added.
Mr Hulland, who is the school’s new Head Teacher, had only been in post for 12 weeks when the inspection took place, but has significant experience having led two previous schools out of this situation and he is confident he can do the same alongside the team at Risca.
Cllr Carol Andrews, Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said, “The Local Education Authority and our colleagues at EAS will continue to provide all the necessary support and advice to ensure that the school responds positively to this report.
“We are confident that the findings will be addressed fully by the dedicated leadership team at Risca Community Comprehensive School.”
The school will be engaging with learners and parents as part of this improvement process and special Q+A sessions will be held at the school on 22nd and 23rd January at 5.00pm for any parents to attend and discuss any questions or concerns.
