Humpty and Dumpty: Two cracking Akita pups looking for their forever home

Meet Humpty and Dumpty, two 9-week-old Akitas in search of individual homes, seeking caring owners who can provide the love and attention they deserve. These puppies, both deaf, are on a quest to find extraordinary and understanding families who can offer the love and support they truly need. 

Humpty and Dumpty, named after the beloved nursery rhyme, are looking to overcome the challenges of deafness.

Deafness in dogs is a condition that requires a unique approach to training and care. These two Akita puppies will need patient owners willing to make adjustments to their training routines. Deaf dogs often rely more on visual and tactile cues, making the training process a unique and rewarding experience for both the dogs and their families. 

Despite their deafness, Humpty and Dumpty have shown their potential to thrive in the right environment. They can live with children aged 11 and above, and they may even share their homes with another dog if they get along. However, new owners should provide a safe space for them to enjoy their meals separately. Additionally, these puppies can happily coexist with a dog-savvy cat, making them a great addition to multi-pet households. 

Angela Wetherall, the Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Cardiff, comments: 

“Humpty and Dumpty are a remarkable pair of puppies. They are a bit shy at first, but with time, patience, and love, they quickly come around and are learning how to play with toys. Deaf dogs are incredibly adaptable, and they can form deep bonds with their families. We believe that, with the right homes, Humpty and Dumpty can lead happy and fulfilling lives.” 

Humpty and Dumpty highlight the importance of considering the unique needs of dogs with disabilities. While they may require special care and attention, their capacity for love, loyalty, and joy is boundless.
