Honey at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre is “one of a kind”
A special rehoming appeal has been launched for a dog who has overcome her fear of meeting new people.
wo-year-old Honey is being cared for at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre and has been at the Hartridge Farm road centre since 23 May last year.
The smooth coat Collie crossbreed was rescued by the RSPCA inspectorate last year and was very nervous when she arrived at the RSPCA centre.
Behaviour and Welfare Advisor at the centre, Hayley Moorey, said Honey used to live in a field with a large number of dogs and wasn’t used to being around people.
“She was very nervous on arrival and was so frightened to begin with it took us three hours for her to come out of the van,” she said.
“She was then too scared to come out of her kennel for the first week. However, over time we have been able to slowly build a bond with her and now she is the sweetest, most affectionate girl with people she knows.
“She is super clever, loves to learn and enjoys play time with other dogs – especially her best friend Wynter (pictured).”
Unfortunately a home hasn’t been found for Honey yet, but staff at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre hope there is a perfect home awaiting her.
“She has built very special bonds with staff but does take a bit of time to build a bond with new people,” said Hayley.
“She will need owners who can visit the centre multiple times to build a bond and she is also looking for an adult only home and can live with another dog.
“We would also be happy for her being rehomed with her friend Wynter, if an adopter would be open to the idea, as they love each other so much.
“Honey is truly a special girl, who would make the best forever friend for a lucky adopter. She is a centre favourite and is one of a kind!”
