It will bring together contemporary artworks with archive material plus memorabilia, photos, interviews and art provided by more than 200 individuals and organisations from the city and around Wales.

The Ways of Protest exhibition opens on November 28 in the city centre at Elysium, co-produced by the gallery, the city’s Fusion Programme and Swansea Museum, both part of the Swansea Council’s Cultural Services department.

The exhibition is part of the city’s Change Makers festival, a celebration of the fight for social equality in Swansea and further afield.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “Activism has always been important of encouraging social change in Wales so it’s right that the art and creativity associated with that is celebrated.

“The exhibition is a reminder of some important movements and some memorable artwork.”

The exhibition runs at Elysium Gallery until January 23, from Wednesday-Saturday noon- 7pm. Attendance is free and, due to coronavirus restrictions, by pre-booking only. To book a visit please go to www.bit.ly/WaysOfProtest.

The Fusion project is a joint council and Welsh Government-funded initiative aimed at demonstrating how culture builds long-term benefits for people who otherwise might not have the opportunity to take part in cultural activities.

It’s delivered by the council’s Cultural Services team with the support of organisations and practitioners across the city.
