Businesses are being urged to do the right thing by complying with the Covid-19 regulations as Swansea becomes the latest community to go into a local lockdown.

Most businesses across the city are doing their best to comply with the new restrictions but Swansea Council has warned that it will take enforcement action against those who flout the rules.

The message comes after the Copper bar and restaurant in Castle Street was issued with an immediate closure notice after police licensing teams visited the premises on Saturday night.

In addition the Four Brothers barber shop in Mumbles and Jonny Blades Barber in Morriston have been issued with 48-hour improvement notices. Both will face further action if they don’t comply.

This action follows a closure notice issued to the owners of the Patti Raj and improvement notices issued to local branches of Aldi in Llansamlet and Gorseinon.

Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council said: “We need businesses cooperation hugely at the moment to help us control the infection. The vast majority of businesses are working with us and doing all they can to do the right thing.

“We will continue to work with businesses to assist them but where we are being presented with no choice in small numbers of instances of blatant non-compliance issues we will take firm action.”

“The latest lockdown measures mean it is now more important than ever that businesses pay attention to the latest regulations so we can keep the public safe and help prevent the spread of the virus.

“Many businesses in the city are doing the right thing, taking their responsibilities seriously and abiding by the rules. Those who don’t abide by the rules put their communities at risk and that is unacceptable.”
