A new ‘special bonus payment’ of £500 to frontline health and social care workers in Wales has been welcomed by Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care.
Councillor Clive Lloyd said staff who have been on the frontline throughout the pandemic more than deserved the payment announced today by the Welsh Government.
Care home workers and domiciliary care staff are among the people working across the NHS and social care in Wales who will receive the full payment in their pockets as the £500 is after tax and National Insurance.
Cllr Lloyd said: “I’ve been humbled to see the way health and social care staff in Swansea, both those within the council and those working for our partners, have responded to the challenges of the last 12 months.
“To say they have gone above and beyond does not truly reflect the commitment and dedication they have demonstrated daily to those in their care.
“This has been the case throughout but their professionalism and compassion was particularly evident during December and the start of this year when services were under extreme pressure at the height of the second wave.
“Had it not been for them then I’m certain that more lives would sadly have been lost and all people in Swansea owe them a debt of gratitude.
“There is no sum that can reflect what they have done but I warmly welcome and thank the Welsh Government for this payment to the frontline workforce in recognition of their extraordinary service.”
