New research has revealed that Newport has seen a bigger rise in searches for tattoo removals than anywhere else in Wales.
The Devonshire Clinic analysed search engine data to reveal how many times terms like ‘Tattoo Removal’ were searched in 2020 and 2024.
The data revealed Newport saw the biggest percentage increase of 202.22%
In 2020, the terms were only searched an average of 450 times a month, but it has now shot up to an average of 1,360 times a month.
Swansea saw the second largest rise at 187.95%, followed by Wrexham, Cardiff, and Bangor with 174.07%, 132.99% and 102.78% respectively.

In regard to sheer number of searches in 2024, Swansea came first with 2,390, followed by Cardiff with 2,260.
Wrexham came third (1,480), Newport fourth (1,360), and Bangor fifth (730)

As a country, Wales saw a 30.85% rise in searches, the third highest in the UK.

Dr Conal Perrett from The Devonshire Clinic, who conducted the research, said: “the rise in searches shows a growing trend in people reconsidering their past choices.
“What was once seen as a permanent decision is now being reconsidered, as people look to align their current selves with their past decisions.
“The shift shows the evolving relationship between identity and body art and highlights a broader movement towards change, renewal, and personal transformation.”
