Nathan Lewis, 32 from Merthyr Tydfil was sentenced on Friday February 13 at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court to four months in prison and given a five-year restraining order.
This sentence follows a guilty plea for one count of racially aggravated assault and one count of racially/ religiously aggravated fear.
This followed officers attending the Morrisons daily shop in Gurnos, Merthyr Tydfil after reports of an assault on a man in October 2025.
Officers investigating the case looked at the CCTV from the shop which clearly shows Lewis pushing the victim and grabbing him around the throat whilst threatening him. Lewis then grabbed a bottle of spirits to hit the victim before he was restrained and stopped from doing so by members of the public.
PC Jones said “This will have been a very intimidating experience for the victim. Lewis’s conduct was completely unacceptable, and people behaving like he has done have no place in society.
“He is deservedly starting his time in prison”
