Barratt David Wilson Redrow South Wales (BDWR) has donated £4,500 to community causes in South Wales this summer — supporting charities that provide vital care for people and animals across the region.
Through its Community Fund scheme, the housebuilder gave £1,500 each to the Dean Close Foundation, Greyhound Rescue Wales and Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale during July, August and September.
The initiative is part of a national programme that has donated more than £2.5 million to good causes since its launch in 2022* — helping hundreds of organisations in the areas where Barratt Redrow builds.
Among this summer’s beneficiaries is Greyhound Rescue Wales (GRW) — which relies solely on donations, self-raised funds and volunteers to provide vital veterinary treatment and lifelong support for greyhounds and lurchers abandoned after racing or hunting.
GRW chair Debra Allen said:
“We’re delighted to receive such a generous donation from BDWR South Wales, which will support our vital work in rescuing and rehoming greyhounds and lurchers in Wales.
“Greyhounds need more help than ever, and we rely heavily on our supporters. This donation will directly help the dogs in our care, many of whom come to us with significant injuries or as a result of neglect or abandonment. These dogs can need expensive vet treatment, medication, rehabilitation and specialist care while we prepare them for their new homes, and we are very grateful for this support.”
Also supported by the Fund is the Dean Close Foundation. In Wales, the Foundation’s work centres on delivering high-quality education and care through its nurseries and schools, ensuring children are supported from the earliest months of life through to young adulthood.
Meanwhile, in September, BDWR South Wales donated £1,500 to Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale — which will use the funding to deliver resources, activities and practical services for older people in the local area.
Alongside the financial donations, BDWR South Wales supports their employees to volunteer within local communities — contributing to thousands of hours spent on volunteer programmes annually.
