Thus keeping art relevant for its audience has been the primary goal for artists, art exhibitions, and hence gallerists.

But keeping it relevant has always been challenging, mainly for art gallerists. Art galleries are always evolving like the art and the artists. It is no longer confined to physical space, rather a leap was taken to create digital art galleries during the pandemic. So, while audiences have started touring virtual galleries and appreciating virtual art forms, the need for physical galleries cannot be denied. Simultaneously the displaying of new art forms.

In the last few decades installation art has gained quite popularity, but many conventional gallerists were not keen on displaying such installation works as art. But with time installation artists have gained global recognition and one such artist is China’s Qin Yufen, who is internationally acclaimed for her installation art. One person who has backed Qin Yufen is international gallerist Pearl Lam. Qin is known for combining aural with visual art, in which she digitally reorganizes, breaks down, and distorts classical music, everyday life, and nature’s sounds and uses these sounds as a backdrop for her installation art. Known for using a minimalist approach, Qin uses objects like wires, clothes stands, bamboo, Mao suits, loudspeakers, silk, and rice paper to create the installation art. It provides a unique experience for the audience in which they can relate to the roots of Chinese culture in a different and modern way.

Another artist who is now well-known for a unique and new art form is Ren Ri. He is also represented by Pearl Lam, who has seen the potential of this interdisciplinary artist, who uses science, biology, engineering, mechanics, and art to showcase a contemporary and a different art form. Ren uses a distinctive material to create his art, beeswax and insects. He has worked with bees for decades and explored the relationship between them and humans, creating a new language through an exclusive art form. The main aim of Ren’s work is to understand human interaction with nature, particularly bees, through remodelling, destruction, harmony, and intervention creating a mesmerizing sculpture.

Forcing Audience To Rethinking With New Art Forms

It’s important to note that with both Qin Yufen and Ren Ri’s art forms, though they are non-conventional the audience is forced to rethink about society and us as human beings. For instance, it has been scientifically proved that without bees’ life would cease to exist. Qin’s work, on the other hand, offers a different lens to understand Chinese society and the world with installation art.

Pearl Lam and the likes of her have shown why it is vital to showcase non-traditional art forms in art galleries. It removes the typical understanding of how art should be and jars the audience to take a look at society differently while appreciating the new art form.
