A specialist employment advisory service is working to reach more people in Swansea than ever before following a restructure earlier this year.

During the first two months since the change in April, Communities for Work Plus has already assisted 122 people to find employment and it has enrolled more than 300 individuals on to the programme.

As well as being based in the Employment Hub in the Quadrant Shopping Centre alongside Swansea Council’s employability service Swansea Working, the team has also been attending drop-in sessions and other events in outlying communities across the city.

Communities for Work Plus, which is funded by the Welsh Government, provides support and intensive mentoring to people who are either in or at risk of poverty and have complex barriers to employment and training opportunities.

Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Alyson Pugh, said: “The changes that were made earlier this year are already leading to some remarkable achievements.

“The council is committed to supporting all our residents into work and training and in assisting them to develop to their full potential and Communities for Work Plus is an important part of the support available.

“The team go beyond conventional methods by attending drop-in sessions at local libraries and reaching out to communities.

“This proactive approach ensures that even those who may not be aware of available support can access their services.

“Their efforts have successfully connected with a wider audience, providing invaluable guidance to individuals seeking employment.”
